Exporting a Claude chat is useful when the conversation has become work product. Maybe it contains a project plan, a debugging trail, a draft, a research outline or a decision you need later.
The right export format depends on what you want to do next. ClaudePack supports Markdown, Word-compatible document export and JSON for the current conversation.
Use Markdown for durable notes
Markdown is a good default when you want the conversation to remain readable in many places. It works in editors, documentation tools, note apps and repositories.
Choose Markdown when you want to:
- save a clean text record
- paste into documentation
- commit notes to a repository
- keep headings and speaker labels readable
Markdown is also easy to review with search and diff tools.
Use Word-compatible export for review
Word-compatible export is helpful when someone expects a document. It is useful for drafts, meeting notes, research summaries and material that may be edited in a document workflow.
ClaudePack generates this export locally from the current conversation. It is not a cloud conversion service.
Use JSON for structure
JSON is best when you want structured conversation data. It can preserve message roles, IDs and text in a machine-readable format.
Choose JSON when you want to:
- archive structured chat data
- inspect message roles
- process the conversation with your own local tools
- keep attachment names alongside messages where available
Export intentionally
Exports should not become clutter. A simple rule helps: export when a conversation has produced something you will need outside the tab.
For long chats, combine exports with bookmarks. Bookmark the most important answers while working, then export the conversation when it becomes a useful record.
What ClaudePack does not export
ClaudePack does not claim access to hidden chain of thought, hidden system prompts or private Anthropic state. It works from conversation content available in the browser and generates the export when you request it.
That limitation is a good thing. Export should mean saving your visible work, not pretending to expose invisible internals.
